Though Apple released the iPhone 4S with much fanfare, it was pretty obvious that millions were disappointed with what the iPhone 4S had to offer. Not too many people liked the fact that the iPhone 4S kept the same exact design as the iPhone 4, even though the iPhone 4 was released 16 months before the launch of the iPhone 4S. Though the iPhone 4S had a faster processor, IOS5 and a pretty cool virtual assistant in Siri, there were many who were still not satisfied with what the iPhone 4S had to offer. Some even joked around that Apple had simply stuck a “S” sticker on the iPhone 4. Even though the iPhone 4S has been a hit in terms of sales, there are millions and millions of iPhone 4 users who skipped on the upgrade, to obviously upgrade to the iPhone 5 instead of the iPhone 4S. In the sections below, we will go over the most important new features that are expected in the iPhone 5.
iPhone 5 – Expected Specs and features
iPhone 5 4G LTE
It is now the 4G generation. Considering that 4G can result in download speeds that are in excess of 28.8Mbps, it has to be said that 3G will soon be left in the dust. With so many Android phones already offering 4G LTE support, it will be a huge disappointment if Apple does not include 4G compatibility in the iPhone 5. Some industry experts actually say that Apple wanted to include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 4S (which was incidentally supposed to be the iPhone 5), but just could not manage it as the 4G LTE chips were just too big for the iPhone’s current design and battery capabilities. This essentially means that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen, probably 4 or 4.3 inches, if it has to incorporate 4G LTE technology. We have gone over the details on the iPhone 5 screen size in the section below.
iPhone 5 Screen – Will it be bigger than 3.5 inches?
This is quite a difficult question to answer as there are a lot of factors that might affect the answer. For beginners, it is public knowledge that Steve Jobs, the inventory of the iPhone was a ardent fan of the 3.5 inch screen size.Steve Jobs gave utmost importance to the design element of his products and felt that the 3.5 inch screen was just the “perfect” size for a phone. Even just before his death, he expressed his opinion that he still thought that the 3.5 inch screen was the best size for the iPhone, both current and future. Steve Jobs also believed that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen will result in a strain on the battery that Apple just does not tolerate.
Another pressing problem that might prevent the iPhone 5 from getting a larger screen is that a larger screen might not allow Apple to incorporate it’s high quality retina display resolution on a larger screen. If the screen is going to be bigger than 3.5 inches, it would obviously be difficult to pack in the same amount of pixels per square inch, thereby compromising the quality of the screen. Since retina display is almost impossible on a 4 inch screen on a 4.5 inch screen, Apple might be forced to keep the iPhone 5 screen size at the same 3.5 inches that have been featured in all the previous 5 generation of iPhone’s.
iPhone 5 release date – When might it be?
Apple has never been a company that has announced the release date of their products at an advance date. So, we pretty much have to guess at a probable release date. There are millions, probably just like yourself, who are expecting the iPhone 5 to come out in the summer of 2012. But, what people fail to understand is that the summer release dates at Apple have traditionally been reserved for the iPad models. With iPad 3 production and shipping almost finalized, there is very little chance that the iPhone 5 will be launched or released along with the iPad 3. The iPhone 5 is just too popular a product to share a release date with another high profile gadget.
Quite recently, we read some very interesting rumors or assumptions that suggested that the iPhone 5 will be released on the first death anniversary of Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5, 2011. October 5, 2012, aside from being a symbolic release date for Apple, is also a date that makes a lot of sense in terms of business. October is not too far away from the holiday shopping season and it will be prime time for releasing a high profile product like the iPhone 5.
What else can you expect to see in the iPhone 5?
While most people are only interested in whether or not the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen and also come with LTE support, there are others who are interested in the processor speed and operating system upgrade as well. There have been a few rumors that have seemed to suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to get a super fast quad core processor, along with a much more sophisticated and easy to use IOS6 However, the general consensus is that the iPhone 5 will retain the same A5 processor that is used in the iPhone 4S.
Honestly, we think that a quad core processor is overkill for a cell phone. If anything the clock speed of the A5 processor might be increased in the iPhone 5 model. However, we do think that the iPhone 5 will run on IOS6 that may possibly include some exciting features such as NFC support, 3D camera support, facial recognition and a few other exciting features.
